Mother Earth
& Mona
A guide on the journey of plastic waste also designed as a puzzle by Mona herself.
An estimated 275m tonnes of global plastic waste is generated each year...
44%
ends up in
a landfill
36%
ends up along coastlines
& oceans
And only 20% ends up actually being recycled!
Except it’s less than that. This data was collected in 2015. Since 2018, China, which was handling a majority of the world’s recyclable waste, has banned the import of most plastics. Sources: Jambeck et al (2015). Geyer et al (2017)
I hope you had fun & learned a little bit about how pollution is impacting our beautiful planet. Let’s get to saving the planet!
Love, Mona
